Moodle

Moodle is a secure Internet based Educational Website.  It allows the students to view/download course information including lecture notes, calendars for their course, subject outlines and assignment postboxes, while also allowing them to download College forms and much more.

All Harvest West, students are given their own unique login access to Moodle and then enrolled on the subjects relevant to them.  For all students, Harvest West uploads each of that semester's subject outlines, class notes (usually added weekly) and subject readers (where a reader is produced instead of a text; and where document size allows) on Moodle.  This means that all on-campus students are able to access these documents on this website if they are lost, destroyed or not received.  Remember, the most important document the student must have is their Subject Outline, which gives an overview of the subject, PLUS the much loved assignments and their due weeks (as a College we do not work with dates but with weeks).

HWBC requires the external students to retrieve their material from the web for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that it becomes very cumbersome, time-consuming and costly to print and post all notes and readers, particularly if the student would prefer not to have a lot of paperwork around, and would prefer to have all the information in digital format rather than a hard copy format. However, hard copies can be produced at a cost if the student would prefer this format.

In case of illness or inability to attend College on the day an assignment is due, the On-Campus student will have the opportunity to upload their completed assignment to Moodle. They must then hand their hard copy in on their next lecture day.  However, this is ONLY allowable under the following circumstances:

  • An excused absence with a valid Medical Certificate.
  • An excused absence with a letter from their Church/Pastor or employer (and this only at discretion of Principal or Registrar).

In either case it is a requirement that the student rings the College as a matter of courtesy, speak to the Registrar or Principal and inform them of the absence.

At Orientation, the student will receive a Student Handbook in which is a section detailing all necessary instructions for utilization of the Moodle website.  Practical demonstration will be given during Orientation.
